Before all the false hysteria over, as Jon Stewart dubbed it, Blizzacalypsemaggedon, I went out to a lovely brunch with my friend Rachel who I haven’t seen in a while. Since I brought my camera and didn’t use it, all the images for this post come from my Instagram, the feature image coming from Rachel’s camera phone. I never said I was a good blogger. I just eat food and wear clothes.
This New Year has been a little nuts for me. New internship, new projects, my goal to run 730 miles this year…I will be posting sporadically. For the first post of 2015, I wanted to do another bit on hosting friends for an anime marathon. The show is Tokyo Ghoul and the food is the sandwich.
When you have the time, taking the moment to make ramen from scratch is truly something beautiful. Much better than the store-bought variety that’s 1 dollar a pop. This recipe is a modified version from Half Baked Harvest, using beef instead of pork and acorn squash, but it is just as good and heart-warming (or artery-clogging, take your pick). I also want to take the time to apologize for being MIA due to NaNoWriMo and having extra work for both my internships.
Fall is notorious for the onset of pumpkin spice everything in the past decade, but there’s nothing cheesy about old activities like carving pumpkins. It’s a good excuse for wine and friends to come over and make a mess in your kitchen. Plus, sometimes you need to unwind by getting those creative juices flowing.
I like cheese as much as the next person. So, for a lunch-date, Matt and I went to Murray’s Cheese Bar, adjacent to Murray’s Cheese Shop. I am literally going to stop apologizing for the erratic posting, but I have been doing well and honestly haven’t had much time for content creation.
Two gluten-free heads working together is better than one. Especially when it comes to reinventing comfort food. Did I reinventing? I meant trying our hardest not to cry when trying to enjoy traditional comfort food. Is there any food more comforting than pizza? (Hint: there isn’t).
I don’t even know why I think making frosting at the same time cupcakes are happening is a good idea. You would think that after a few years of cupcake-making for and with friends, I would learn something. Well, here’s another failed frosting attempt, but also a delicious attempt at combining three things people like: Bacon, dates, and goat cheese.
This weekend was special for me and Matthew, for it was our 2nd Anniversary. We decided to celebrate in the best way we knew how. Which involved two baking projects. I’ll provide the recipe to this one, since it actually worked (with some adjustments).
Anyone who knows me know that I value making comfort food that works for you. Some people are comforted by health food. I like to take a break from health food and bust out the bacon, spaghetti, clams, and–wait, what?
